Age Calculator

Calculate an exact age - or the gap between any two dates - in years, months, days, and total days. It is precise enough for forms, eligibility checks, and record-keeping.

Age & Timeline Helper

Age Calculator

Enter a birth date (and optional as-of date) to get exact age in years, months, days, plus total days lived.

As-of date defaults to today. Works fully offline-no data leaves your browser.

Age Details

Enter a birth date to calculate age.

Why exact age is trickier than it looks

Age seems simple until leap years and uneven month lengths get involved. Counting full years, then the leftover months, then the leftover days, requires handling February, 30- versus 31-day months, and leap days correctly. Doing it by hand is error-prone, especially near a birthday.

The tool computes the precise breakdown and also the total number of days, which is what some official forms and eligibility rules actually require.

Common uses

Precise dates matter in more places than birthdays.

  • Confirming eligibility against an age cutoff for schemes, jobs, or schemes with a date rule.
  • Filling forms that ask for age in years and months.
  • Working out an exact duration between two events.

FAQs

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. The calculation correctly handles leap years and the different lengths of months, so the day count is accurate across February and leap days.

Can I calculate the time between two arbitrary dates?

Yes. Set both dates yourself; it does not have to involve today, so you can measure any interval.

Why does it also show total days?

Because some official rules and forms express age or duration purely in days. The total-days figure saves you from converting years and months by hand.

How is age counted exactly on a birthday?

You turn a year older on the anniversary of your birth date. The tool counts a full year only once that date is reached, matching how age is legally counted.

Is my date information stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser; the dates are not uploaded.

Does the order of the two dates matter?

It measures the gap between them; entering them in the wrong order just flips the sign of the difference, but the duration is the same.

Can it handle dates far in the past or future?

Yes, it works across a wide range of dates, which is useful for historical or long-term calculations.

Why might my age in months differ from a rough estimate?

Because months are not equal in length, the precise month-and-day breakdown can differ slightly from simply multiplying years by twelve.

Does it use my time zone?

It works from the calendar dates you enter, so time zones do not affect a whole-day age calculation.
